ACCESSIBILITY OFFERINGS
AT LAKESHORE PLAYERS THEATRE
We strive to make our performances accessible to all members of our community, regardless of income, ability, or age. We are committed to offering an experience that can be enjoyed by all patrons whether you’re here for a performance, a tour or an educational experience. Take a look at our state-of-the-art accessibility options that we offer here at Lakeshore:
For Those with Mobility Disabilities
Theatre Seating: Both our blackbox theatre and mainstage auditorium have accessible wheelchair/scooter seating, with at least one companion seat adjacent. We also have seats with removable arm rests for patrons who’d rather transfer from a wheelchair or walker.
Parking: Accessible, free parking is available in our lot, with handicapped parking spots near each of our three entrances.
Restrooms: Our restrooms are located on either side of our building, and are fully accessible to patrons in wheelchairs. We are thrilled to mention that because of our Capital Campaign, a theatrical experience in our building can be accessed without elevators
For Those Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
Assistive-Listening Devices: Devices that amplify and clarify sound by cutting down ambient noise are available at the box office.
ASL Interpretation: American Sign Language interpretation, by certified interpreters.
Open-Captioning: When you have hearing loss, but do not benefit from assistive listening devices, or simply miss a word here and there, Open Captioning can keep you from missing out. Similar to closed captioning in television or on TV, our open captioning device streams the lines that our actors say and sing onstage, in real time, so that you can follow along from any seat in the auditorium.
For Those Who are Blind or have Low Vision
Audio Description: Audio described performances involve a trained professional that describes actions, costumes, scenery, and other aspects of the production not conveyed by voices from the stage. The describer talks into a mouthpiece which is transmitted to earpiece devices, so that patrons who are blind can hear discreetly, to enhance their experience.
Large Print Programs: You must make arrangements through our Box Office 7 days in advance of your performance to request a large-print program.
ADDITIONAL ACCESSIBILITY AMENITIES
Pay-What-You-Can Night: In order to remain accessible to patrons with limited income, we offer one pay-what-you-can performance for every production. Pay $10, $5, or $1! All are welcome. Pay-What-You-Can performances happen the Thursday before opening night of every mainstage production.
Wide Seats: We have four extra wide seats in our main auditorium. These seats are available for patrons with young children, with limited mobility, and to offer extra comfort and flexibility for our patrons. To reserve these seats for your next performance, please inquire at the box office.
Sensory-friendly performances
A sensory-friendly performance is intended to be sensitive to and accepting of any audience member who may benefit from a more relaxed environment. Although these performances are open to all patrons, they are intentionally modified to accommodate patrons with sensory sensitivities including anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, learning differences or challenges attending the theater. Some modifications will be made to the performance, which may include reducing the volume of loud noises and effects, eliminating strobe lights, keeping the house lights on and allowing patrons to make noise & move in the audience as needed. In addition to making adjustments onstage and in the theater, our lobby will include quiet areas, and our staff present will assist patrons to enjoy an open, welcome, accessible environment.
Special Note for La Cage aux Folles: There will no longer be a sensory-friendly performance of La Cage aux Folles on Saturday May 6. Due to the intricate design and nature of the show, we do not feel we are able to offer appropriate accommodations. Thank you for your understanding.
