Based on a true story and inspired by interviews conducted by the playwright over several years, I Am My Own Wife tells the fascinating and real-life tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a transgender woman who managed to survive both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist regime. This tour-de-force performance by one actor includes more than 40 characters, including the controversial figure herself and the American writer who becomes intrigued by her.

All performances are held at the Hanifl Performing Arts Center: 4941 Long Ave., White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Free parking is available in the lot surrounding the theatre.
RUN TIME
The run time is 120 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission.
CONTENT advisory & AGE RECOMMENDATION
This production is recommended for ages 14+ for mature language and themes. Per the show description, the character of Charlotte is a transgender woman. This play makes references to Nazi & Stasi-era violence, domestic abuse, murder, and LGBTQIA+ culture & sexuality. There is the sound of a loud gunshot and distant bombs.
